Nate Spear-Balka

Nate Spear-Balka has experience practicing as both criminal and civil trial counsel. He has worked as solo trial counsel on a variety of matters in both the Ontario Court of Justice and Superior Court of Justice, conducting trials and securing acquittals on matters in both Courts involving allegations of possession of illegal drugs, possession of illegal firearms, assault, human trafficking, impaired driving, and administrative offences, among others.

As solo counsel, Nate has also conducted over 100 bail hearings/bail reviews and secured release for accused at all levels of Court, including the Court of Appeal for Ontario.

Additionally, Nate has also worked as co-counsel on matters involving allegations of homicide.

When working on civil matters, he has conducted examinations for lawsuits and has received settlement funds on behalf clients from large corporations.

Nate has a special focus on dog bites for both victims and dog owners, representing clients charged under the DOLA (Dog Owner’s Liability Act) and have brought successful lawsuits on behalf of victims of dog bites.
